Hello everyone:

Health OU was created for two reasons. First, it was created in order to establish an online meeting place for alumni and friends. As everyone grows older and moves away, it is very important to keep in touch with your classmates and to share in common goals. All of you have fostered friendships during your stay on Oakwood’s campus, and these friendships may continue, hopefully through communication on this site.

More importantly, and secondly, Health OU is for those Oakwood alumni and friends who have truly embraced the mission of our church and school. Oakwood’s science department was originally designed to produce medical missionaries, who were ready to help physically and more importantly spiritually. This site is for those alumni who have caught the vision of the mission. It is for those alumni who have realized that their purpose on this earth has nothing to do with their current occupation or the number of degrees they have; but has everything to do with how many souls they have brought into the Kingdom, directly or indirectly. Ellen G. White, in the Medical Missionary writes:

   “As I see so many claiming to be medical missionaries, the representation of what Christ was on this earth flashes before me. As I think of how far short the workers today fall when compared with the divine Example, my heart is bowed down with a sorrow that words cannot express. Will men and women ever do a work that bears the features and character of the great Medical Missionary? . . . {MM 20. 4}

     Is there not woe enough in this sin-stricken, sin-cursed earth to lead us to consecrate ourselves to the work of proclaiming the message that "God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life"? This earth has been trodden by the Son of God. He came to bring men light and life, to set them free from the bondage of sin. He is coming again in power and great glory, to receive to Himself those who during this life have followed in His footsteps.”

Additionally, this site gives us an opportunity to give back to the program by assisting present students and supporting various programs. Moreover, in times of disaster many have called back to inquire as to how they can assist—this site will help us to more coordinate our activities and respond in a more comprehensive and professional manner.

Thanks for your help! I came to Oakwood reluctantly, but you called me at home in Delaware even before you knew me and encouraged me to come. Then you helped to inspire me past dentistry into medicine! Thank you for your leadership. I still fondly remember botany walks and your enthusiasm for the "Liquidambar styraciflua"! You just loved pronouncing that tree! Anyway, just wanted to update and join your group and say thank you to a great professor. Please look out for my neighbor - Stephanie Harris. She matriculates at Oakwood in the fall.

Regards,

Fred Goodman
